Minimum rest is the protected period you must have free of duty before you report for a flight. It exists so that crew report fit and adequately rested. The exact requirement is set by your airline's operations manual and the regulator that oversees it, and it can vary depending on the type of duty.
It means you need 5 hours and 30 minutes free of duty before your reporting time. If you report at 23:00, your rest period begins at 17:30 — so you should be back in your accommodation by then.
The same principle with a longer window: 9 hours free of duty before reporting. Reporting at 23:00 means being back by 14:00 the same day.
That depends on your airline, your duty, and the applicable regulations — this tool can't determine it for you. Check your roster and your company's operations manual, and ask crew control if you're unsure. The calculator simply lets you choose whichever value applies to your duty.
Reporting time is the time you must present for duty — not the departure time of the aircraft. Rest is calculated backwards from reporting time, which is why this tool asks for your report time rather than the flight's scheduled departure.
Subtract your minimum rest from your reporting time. Reporting at 06:00 with a 9-hour requirement means being back by 21:00 the previous evening. The calculator does this for you, including when the answer falls on the day before.
All calculations use Doha time (GMT+3), because reporting happens in Doha. Your phone's timezone doesn't affect the result — so if you check it while on a layover in London or Bangkok, the answer is still correct Doha time. Every result is labelled to make this clear.
